As many of you know, at the end of 2026 Mary Pollock is going to retire from the SERA Legislative Liaison position. Mary has been a huge asset to the organization for the past ten plus years of her tenure. Her valuable knowledge and attention to detail, along with her relationships with legislators, has put the organization on the forefront in Lansing. The Coordinating Council and many of the SERA chapters have appreciated her written reports as well as her presentations at chapter meetings. She has kept us up to date on what was happening in Michigan and on the federal level. We want to thank Mary for the many years she has devoted to SERA and wish her a happy retirement. Enjoy those upcoming trips and wherever the next chapter of your journey takes you.
The Coordinating Council has been on the search for a replacement for the past several months. We had two applicants; Bob and I interviewed them both and we would like to announce we have found the Coordinating Council’s next Legislative Liaison. We would like to introduce you to Robert Bowers, member of the Saginaw, Bay City, Midland SERA chapter. Robert is very involved in Saginaw’s political environment. We feel Robert is a very good fit for our organization and will keep the Council and chapters updated on issues that affect our population. Robert will start this position on January 1, 2027, and in the interim will connect with Mary to transition before the end of the year. So, there are many things ahead of us and Robert will continue to provide the organization with updated legislative information. So, please welcome Robert to his new endeavor and hopefully 2027 will be a good year for State of Michigan retirees.
