At the May Coordinating Council meeting we had as our guest Arva Overton, who many of you know is retiring at the end of May. We presented her with a plaque of appreciation for all that she has done for the SERA retirees. She has attended numerous chapters and coordinating council meetings and brought to us so much great information. She has been available to assist in resolving issues in lightening speed time. She will absolutely be missed. But do not fear, her replacement Kelsi Sawdy was also at the meeting and was introduced to those in attendance. Kelsi and her team, which includes Zachary Holloway, will be just as accessible to SERA members and will also be attending meetings once she has settled in and acclimated to her new role. We are very excited about this new chapter with BCBSM.
Bethany Beauchine, Bureau of Benefits Administration, Director was also in attendance and graciously filled in as our speaker. Our original speaker Heather Travis had to cancel. Bethany spoke about an issue regarding our prescription drug benefit and changes made by the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. The changes are being discussed with Employee Benefits Department because these changes come at a cost to the State of Michigan. So when a final decision is made, we will update everyone.
Bob and I will be attending the Lansing Chapter executive board meeting on Wednesday May 7, 2025.
