Chair Talk

May 2020

I hope that all SERA members and retirees are healthy and safe. These are unusual times and we need to take care of ourselves — we are in that vulnerable age group that is more susceptible to the Coronavirus disease.

Because of the Governor’s social distancing and stay-at-home Executive orders, we have cancelled the May and June Executive Board meetings. We did have a conference call with Executive Board members and SERA Chapter Presidents on April 30th. Minutes of that conference call are being sent to those involved. I will probably set up another conference call on Friday, June 5th.

Just another reminder to members/retirees that have not yet filled out census forms. Please do so because it affects many federal programs that bring federal dollars into the State. If you have already filled out the forms, THANK YOU.

The new no-fault law goes into effect on July 1, 2020. I have asked Blue Cross and Employee Benefits about any effect the new law will have on Medicare retirees. When I receive a response from either Blue Cross or Employee Benefits, I will distribute it.

Because of the Governor’s social distancing and stay-at-home orders, Hantz has had to cancel/reschedule their seminars. We will be talking to them about possible webinars that would be of interest to SERA members and retirees. We will let you know if we are able to get some set up.

Stay safe and stay healthy!
