MEDICARE ADVANTAGE MEETING UPDATE
There have been 23 Medicare Advantage Informational meetings held so far (not including the SERA Chapter meetings) in Michigan. Cheryl Streberger and/or I have attended all but 2 of those 23 meetings. Currently, there are 25 more scheduled meetings. It is possible that more may be added. Over 3000 retirees have attended the meetings so far . Our part of the presentations involves introducing ourselves as SERA CC leaders and explaining SERA’s purpose and giving information about our organization. We also inform the retirees about our relationship with Civil Service (Employee Benefits), Blue Cross and the Office of Retiree Systems. We use this opportunity to recruit new members by passing out applications and SERA-PLUS brochures. We have both passed out quite a few of those.
There were 82 SERA-PLUS applications processed in August by the Hantz Group.
We have recently learned that Lisa McClain (Senior Vice President) of the Hantz Group has announced that she will be running for the seat in the 10th Congressional District. Lisa is running as a Republican. Lisa has not run for public office before.
Editor’s note: Bob Kopasz is Chair of the Michigan SERA Council. He may be reached at P.O. Box 692, Mt. Morris, MI 48458; phone 810/240-8380.
